Choose a track and a challenge
The Language Lab offers eight tracks: English (US), English (UK), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean. The two English tracks are distinct settings, so eight tracks does not mean eight different languages.
Beginner sessions focus on short replies and familiar vocabulary. Intermediate sessions invite reasons and comparisons. Advanced sessions ask you to defend a point of view and respond to objections.
How to practise with AI
- Open the Language Lab and sign in if prompted.
- Choose a track and continue with the selected language.
- Choose Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.
- Select a historical guide or Atlas, the present-day language coach.
- For Atlas, choose a situation or enter your own goal, then review the generated briefing. For a historical guide, review the mission setup.
- Continue to call setup, check microphone and usage requirements, and start speaking.
- After the mission, review the session result, corrections, and expressions. Retry the mission or choose another character.
Example: an everyday speaking goal
Custom goal for Atlas: “Order a meal at a café and ask about vegetarian options.”
During the call: Greet the other person, ask one question, and clarify an answer you did not understand.
Afterwards: Review any corrections and expressions shown in the result. Feedback varies by session; this is an example task, not a guaranteed score.
Does AI language learning replace other practice?
Use it as one way to rehearse speaking alongside listening, reading, and conversations with people. Mission stars reward participation and goals; they are not a certified proficiency test or a pronunciation assessment. AI feedback can be wrong, so check unfamiliar expressions with a trusted reference or teacher.
Calls require a microphone, connection, account access, and available Sparks. Choose a short, repeatable goal and return to practise it in a different situation.
